As some of may know, I work at a custom fabrics shop. We make anything from truck tarps to pool covers to wind-break shelters for drilling rigs. Those fabric awnings you see up on most stores? Yup, I build and install those as well. We also do a lot of small vinyl sticker work.
Recently we bought about $30,000 worth of graphic designs crap. The package consisted of a 48" printer and cartridges (CMYK), industrial laminator, and a 48" vinyl cutter/plotter. Well, we have now ventured into the car wrapping world. This past Thursday my coworker and I set off to Denison, TX to attend a 2-Day professional wrapping academy put on by a major vinyl company named Oracal.
Before I get any farther, for those of you that don't know, a car wrap is a vinyl adhesive applied to generally commercial vehicles. Example:
Anyways, I was down there from Thursday until Sunday taking classes. Final test was to wrap a ford focus and I completed that with no problem, so now I am an authorized Professional Car Wrapper recognized by Oracal. So all in all, somebody's gonna get a raise...
Not to mention, we stayed 3 nights in a Casino and Resort. Can't go wrong there! Great drunken times were had.

AH a fellow Tradie,
I have managed a Sign Company for the last 6 years. I have recently moved away from that though now I run another business (for the same people) installing Paint Protection film / Windscreen Film on cars and Motorbikes.
If you want to move to AUS I am sure we have a place for you with wrapping skills like that

Nice Job Chippie
Thanks Sneak! I didn't know you did such work. Do you guys use any Oracal products? They are a pretty good company. No splices or flaws in their rolls. If you find a splice in a roll, they will give you $500. Pretty awesome warranty on the products as well. I'm excited about starting this up full time. There are only 2 other company's that offer the service, and neither of them are really that good. We are fairly new at the car wraps, but it won't take us long to become the best around.
If the Mrs. could get a job in Aus, I would jump all over that offer! Always wanted to live "down under". Question though: Is it really anything like Crocodile Dundee...?
Chips, we used Oracal for awhile but their Vinyl color range is not very good. Alot of our customers have logos based on PMS(Pantone) colors and the Avery 900 series bases most of their colors on PMS. 3M is also very good quality Vinyl but expensive. The Oracal Digital print Film is fantastic and yes we do use that. It tends to hold color better with a longer period without fading.
Mate your always welcome here, I am sure your better half would not have a problem getting a job and yes in some parts of Aus 'It is like Crocodile Dundee' but only in the out back. In the Cities we have muggings, robberies, asault's, DUI's and all the lovely things you guy's experience JK
